Andrew Borneman

College Advisor

A smiling man with short dark hair, wearing a light blue dress shirt and a striped tie, standing outdoors with a background of green trees and foliage.

Andrew Borneman has been working with juniors and seniors as an English teacher at independent schools for the past 18 years, expanding that work to college counseling over the past four. As a consummate teacher of literature and composition, Andrew excels at preserving the student voice while also capturing unique angles on everyday student experiences. Unsurprisingly, his favorite part of college advising is the application and essay writing.

Andrew has spent his recent years teaching and counseling at an all-boys independent school, gaining more expertise in college counseling, along with guiding prospective student athletes through the college admissions and recruiting process. Andrew’s best college admissions strategy is helping students capture their own individuality in order to stand out in the admission process.

A Cincinnati native and a third-generation alumnus from The Seven Hills School, Andrew received his B.A. in English from Grinnell College in 2004 and his M.Ed. and teaching license from Xavier University in 2008 (during which time he was a student teacher at Mariemont High School). Andrew is also a published writer and will receive his M.F.A. in fiction from Vermont College of Fine Arts in January 2026. He won the first-place Henry York Steiner Short Fiction award while at Grinnell and won second prize in Craft Literary Magazine’s 2023 hybrid nonfiction contest. Andrew is at work on both a novel and a collection of short stories. Andrew is a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, the Pennsylvania Association for College Admissions Counseling, and the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools.
